· THE CREATION OF ENGLAND · ONE THOUSAND ONE HUNDRED YEARS 927 12TH OF JULY

The 1100th anniversary of England

In the year 927, England began.

On the 12th of July 2027, the story of England turns 1,100 years old. We're building a movement to mark it: an English History Month everyone is invited to share.

The idea

An English History Month. And a day to celebrate it.

We're asking the Government to mark England's 1,100th birthday with a month of history each year from the 12th of July, and a national holiday on the founding day itself, a time to learn, share and enjoy where this country came from. Not a protest. Not a banner for any cause. A birthday.

A sense of scale

2.7%

Everything most of us can remember, the last 30 years, is only 2.7% of England's story.

The other 97.3% is still there, and still worth knowing.

What we'd celebrate

1,100 years of things worth remembering.

927 · The founding

One people, one crown

The moment many kingdoms became one nation, and the reason there's a birthday to mark at all.

Legend · The Round Table

A table with no head

Arthur's table was round so no knight sat above another. An ideal of fairness we still reach for.

The great works · Science

Ideas that changed the world

From Newton to the jet engine, the first computers and the World Wide Web. Invention born here.

Everyone's invited

This is a celebration, not a cause.

It belongs to anyone who calls this country home, and anyone who simply loves its history: every background, every faith and none, every family. There's no side to be on. There's a story to share, and a table with room for all.
